United for Moms: Community Comes Together to Support Women and Families
This past May, United Way’s United for Moms initiative proved just how powerful our community can be when we rally together for a shared cause. In celebration of Mother’s Day and the essential role moms play in our lives and neighborhoods, we hosted a community-wide collection drive to support local women and families—and the response was truly inspiring.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of local donors, volunteers, and community partners, more than 27,000 personal care and baby items were collected and distributed across the region. These donations, carrying an estimated in-kind value of $19,638.52, were shared with eight nonprofit partners serving women and families in our communities:
Child Advocacy – Gratiot County
Community Compassion Network Infant Pantry
Gratiot Community Personal Needs Pantry
Life Choices of Central Michigan
Pompeii Baby Pantry
Pregnancy Services of Gratiot County
RISE Advocacy
The Care Store
From diapers and wipes to shampoo, deodorant, and other hygiene essentials, these everyday items are making a meaningful difference in the lives of the women who received them. For mothers facing financial hardship or navigating difficult circumstances, these donations offer more than just basic necessities—they offer relief, dignity, and hope.
“The items we received through United for Moms help so many of our clients feel seen and supported,” said Julia Eigenbrood, Executive Director at The Care Store. “It’s about meeting basic needs, yes—but it’s also about reminding these moms that they are not alone.”
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took part in this effort. Whether you hosted a collection site, donated items, volunteered your time, or helped spread the word. Your compassion and commitment are helping to build a healthier, more resilient community—one family at a time. United is the way to support mothers, strengthen families, and uplift our entire community.
