We’re Growing Stronger Together: Introducing United Way of Greater Central Michigan
At United Way, our mission has always been simple: to improve lives and strengthen communities. And today, we’re excited to share a major step forward in that mission. United Way of Montcalm-Ionia Counties and United Way of Gratiot & Isabella Counties have officially merged to become one organization: United Way of Greater Central Michigan.
This change allows us to serve all four counties—Gratiot, Isabella, Montcalm, and Ionia—under one name, one shared vision, and one stronger, regional team.
Why Coming Together Matters
Each of our counties is unique, with its own people, strengths, and needs. But over the years, we’ve seen how many of those needs are interconnected. Whether it’s access to food, child care, housing, or mental health services—there’s power in working together to create solutions that lift up everyone.
By coming together, we’re creating more support for families and individuals in need. A bigger, more connected team of local leaders and partners. And ultimately, a greater impact across mid-Michigan.
We’re still your United Way. While we may have a new name and a broader regional focus, the core of who we are—and how we serve—remains unchanged. Local donations will continue to stay in your community, supporting the programs and services that matter most to you. Our local offices will remain open and accessible, staffed by the same people you know and trust. The strong partnerships we've built with local organizations, schools, and service providers will stay firmly in place. This merger isn't about changing what works—it's about building on our strengths to do even more.
“We’re combining the heart and dedication of two incredible United Ways to increase our impact and better serve the communities we call home,” said Annie Sanders, President & CEO of United Way of Greater Central Michigan. “This is about building a healthier, more resilient region—together.”
Looking Ahead
While our team is already working closely across all four counties, our goal is to gradually align and strengthen internal programs so we can share resources and best practices across the region. We’re committed to thoughtful collaboration and listening to the needs of each community every step of the way.
This is more than a name change—it’s a bold step toward a brighter future. Thank you for being part of this journey. With your continued support, we’re ready to do even more good, for even more people, in even more places.
